Rwanda Nyamasheke Muhororo SWP Decaf Medium-Dark Roast

This very special decaffeinated coffee is a Swiss Water Process Emerald Micro Lot. We roasted this coffee to a medium dark roast to add body and chocolate notes while maintaining some of the coffee's notes of cherry.

This coffee is grown at high altitude in the area near Lake Kivu and Nyungwe National Park, within a steady, cloudy climate beneficial to quality coffee growth. It is the labor of more than 200 families who deliver to the Muhororo washing station, where coffee cherries are density-sorted in flotation tanks and then dried on raised beds for 4–6 weeks with constant rotation.

The primary goal of the people behind this coffee is to deliver extremely high quality coffee while investing in the local community and social development projects. By providing work at the washing station, cash advances on coffee, and covering education and healthcare costs, the Muhororo station is constantly giving back to their community. In addition to social and economic programs, Muhororo Coffee gives 4,000 new coffee trees to local growers each year and facilitates training on sustainable and environmentally friendly farming in coordination with the Rwanda National Agricultural Export Development Board. These training include important topics such as land conservation and erosion prevention.
